Everyone wants to see the world clearly. At Eyes Over Copley, Dr. Fox provides eye care services ranging from regular eye exams to pre-operative and post-operative care for patients in Greater Boston, including Cambridge, Brookline, Newton, and Arlington. Our eye doctor uses a comprehensive eye and modern state-of-the-art technology to detect and treat a variety of eye health conditions. Dry eye is a condition that has become very common, especially with the increase of using computer screens. If you are suffering from dry, irritated eyes, we will help you find the relief that you need.

Treating Dry Eyes

Our Doctor of Optometry has experience with diagnosing and treating dry eye. This is a condition that occurs when the tear ducts do not produce enough tears to lubricate the eyes. It may also be caused by dehydration due to climate control in the home or workplace setting. This may lead to irritation and/or inflammation and damage to the cornea. Our treatment for dry eye begins with a proper diagnosis to determine the extent of the problem. The treatment generally includes recommendations for over-the-counter eye drops, or in some cases, a prescription for eye drops that will lubricate the surface of the eye and promote tear production naturally.

We will also recommend that the patient takes frequent breaks when doing intense work that causes excessive strain on the eyes. You may also need to switch from contact lenses to eyeglasses for a while to reduce the risk of corneal damage. There are also newer types of contact lenses that stay hydrated longer, which can be significantly more comfortable throughout the day. A few lifestyle changes and eye drops are often enough to reduce or eliminate dry eyes. If the problem persists, there are additional measures that can be taken. In some cases, we will recommend a minor procedure to unblock the tear ducts.
